Compete, share and play the best games Over Friday and Saturday (May 16th-17th), Almoradí will become the hub of the Vega Baja for videogame aficionados for the fourth edition of this annual fiesta. It starts on Friday, from 4pm-11pm, in the Pabellón Venancio Costa, which will be open to the public to come along and play different games. The Saturday is dedicated to more expert players and will run from 4pm right through the night until 8am on Sunday. Participants on this day have to bring their own TV or monitor, console (PS·, PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One or Wii) and games with them to be able to compete against and share their enjoyment with other like minded fans. It is free to join in. The event was presented by Councillor for Youth Alfonso García and an expert in organising this type of event, Mariano Vicente García, known as Marvi. New activities for this year include a talk about using social networks and another by a game designer, who will offer information about the creative process and places where training is available. Competitors will have to swim 750 metres, cycle 20km and run 5km on Sunday Sport is coming to Orihuela Costa on Sunday (May 18th), when the second edition of the Playas de Orihuela Triathlon, organised by the Tragamillas club, will take place. This event will take place from 10:30am at La Glea beach in Campoamor, and consists of a 750 metre swim, another 20 kilometres by bicycle and finishes with a 5km run. The activity was presented by the Councillors for the Coast, Martina Scheurer and for Sport, Luis Galiano, who revealed that there are already more than 200 competitors but they hope to beat the 250 who took part last year. Companies can present their bids Orihuela Town Hall is putting the contract to operate lifeguard service for its beaches out to tender for €325,000, for one year, announced Councillor for the Coast Martina Scheurer, after the current concessionary company, Ambuibérica SYA decided to rescind the contract it was awarded last year for a period of two years until 2015. The objective is for a new company to perform the service “for the rest of this year and for 2015”. She assured that over the Easter period this year, despite complaints, Town Hall technicians checked and “confirmed the personnel were where they were supposed to be and there were two lifeguards on each beach”.
