Local Heroes of San Fulgencio

Nominate who you think should be rewarded for their good deeds Announcing the first Local Heroes Awards of San Fulgencio, organised by the Office for the Urbanisations, San Fulgencio Town Hall and sponsored by Toldos Guardamar. Who is your unsung hero? Who do you think deserves to be recognised for their courage, fundraising, campaigning, hard work or bravery? We are asking you to vote in the following categories … Child of Courage or Achievement, Fundraiser of the Year, Sports Achievement Award, Parent / Guardian of the Year, Bravery Award, Student of the Year, Emergency Services Award, Teacher of the year, Good Neighbour Award, Special Recognition Award. Each category is individually sponsored by local businesses. You can vote online by emailing [email protected] or by filling in a voting slip available at Town Hall offices, Tourist Information, Hillside, Barclays Properties, The Woodstock, Los Amigos, Toldos Guardamar, La Marina Vehicle Services, The Bell, Our Plaice or through Bay Radio. Voting is open until May 31st. Every nomination will be considered and a panel of judges will decide the winners. The awards will be presented at the Cardinal Belluga Theatre on Saturday the 14th of June. Charity Fun Day in Orihuela Costa

La Rioja commercial centre is raising money for Reach Out on May 31st Following the highly successful Charity Fun Day last November, when over €2,000 was raised for deserving local causes, centro comercial Rioja – situated in the heart of Orihuela Costa – is planning another Charity Fun Day, this time on Saturday the 31st of May. There will be live entertainment courtesy of the Sunshine FM roadshow, plus numerous charity stalls and events all over the complex, with the main charity benefiting from the day being Reach Out Torevieja. With a slogan of “Helping the Homeless and Needy”, Reach Out try to help anyone in need, irrespective of race, creed or status, by providing basic food, clothes, blankets, bedlinen, household items and furniture and giving support in every way they can to someone in need. Reach Out is an entirely voluntary organisation and 100% of all donations benefit the homeless and poor. They are in desperate need of all sorts of items for babies and children; clothes, toys, shoes, baby food, baby toiletries and everything else for children of all ages. Plus any items of non perishable food, tins, cans, bottles etc. which could be donated. Housebreakings in Orihuela Costa

Neighbourhood Watch warns to keep windows closed at night In Orihuela Costa and Laguna Green we have Neighbourhood Watch groups representing 131 residencias. We record our own numbers of crimes committed which on our residencias are normally very low. However, during the summer months of 2013, May to October, we recorded a total of 70 houses that that been entered. This number since the house building boom days before 2009 is abnormal and the vast majority were committed between the hours of 4am and 7am by thieves finding open or partially open windows and by using a rod with a net attached removed property from within. The numbers returned to a normal low after these months. However, in April this year we know of one such theft occurring in the Villamartín area of Orihuela Costa. On this occasion, a rod and net was used to remove car keys and the remote control to the residencia gates, followed by the rent a car which was parked outside. In an attempt to make residents and visitors aware, could you please warn them of this activity and not to leave vulnerable windows open or partially open, especially during the night. Also please do not leave articles in view from outside. By taking these simple precautions the thieves may be prevented from spoiling things, especially if you are on holiday here. Should anyone...
