Almoradí celebrates a deeply rooted local tradition
The Association ‘Santicos de la Piedra’ (Little Saints of the Stone) of Almoradí performed the traditional burning of the May Crosses, by the local church, in which residents get rid of the crosses made of flowers that that have hung on the front of their homes all year to protect them.
Once the old crosses have been burned and after a blessing, the association help the people who come along to make new crosses for this year. The residents, especially the youngest ones, were able to learn how and with what to make these symbols that are a deeply rooted tradition in the Vega Baja. Although it is true that this tradition is fading, activities like this one organised by the association help to make sure it is not extinguished.
