The Torrevieja municipal pound has rehomed 400 dogs in 2013
The hard work of the volunteers at Torrevieja municipal dog pound has had fantastic results. They have been trying to adopt these pets, known affectionately as ‘peludos’ (furry friends), some with tragic pasts that only want a home in which they can offer all their affection and company in return for nothing more than a family that loves them.
In 2013, this animal shelter has managed to rehome almost 400 dogs and the number still seeking a home is only 19. They can be seen on the municipal pound’s Facebook page (Perrera Municipal de Torrevieja), which was set up and is managed by the volunteers, under the direction of Esther Clua, and now has almost 9,000 followers on the social network.
There is constant activity on the page, with questions that are answered every day, and it has become a big meeting point for local animal lovers. Amongst other things, they have managed to get residents to donate all kinds of items to make these furry friends’ stay in the pound more comfortable.
