Orihuela Town Hall is collaborating with Chiringuitos del Sol for this key event to promote tourism on the coast
Orihuela Town Hall, via its Departments for Sport, the Coast, Beaches and International Residents, has collaborated with the beach bar company Chiringuitos del Sol to organise the Spanish beach volleyball Championships in the Under-19 and Under-21 categories.
Councillor for Sports, Luis Galiano, revealed that the competition will take place between the 5th and 8th of September on Plata de la Glea in Campoamor and indicated he was ‘very excited’ by the prospect.
“We are sure it will be an important attraction for Orihuela Costa,” he said.
For her part, Martina Scheurer, Councillor for the Coast, Beaches and International Residents, highlighted the organisation by Chiringuitos del Sol and explained that they will try to make this event “something attractive and put on a range of complementary activities”. In this sense, she announced there will be games for children, entertainment and stands with shade. The councillor also considered the championships to be “key to the touristic promotion of the municipality”, and at the same time thanked the staff of the Sports Department for their work.
The representative of the company Chiringuitos del Sol, Thomas Herteux, detailed that 96 teams from all over Spain will participate, both men and women, and that they will come to Orihuela Costa with 400 companions. For the competition, five beach volleyball courts will be installed, four of them for matches and one as a warm-up area.
“It is a very important event at which we will be able to show off our beaches,” he said.
The presentation was also attended by the president of the Valencian community Volleyball Federation, José Antonio Navarro, who explained that the decision to hold the championships in Orihuela was down to “the good relationship with Chiringuitos del Sol, as they have been putting on beach volleyball matches for years”.
About the choice of La Glea beach to hold this national sporting event, the municipal managers explained that this area of Campoamor is the only one that has enough space, with over 500 metres of beach and more car parking spaces.
More details about the competition will be revealed soon, added the Councillor for Sports, Luis Galiano.
